This past summer, we stayed at the Leopard Beach Resort and Spa for a few days and it turned out to be the perfect 'welcome' back home. It's been a while since we went on a family holiday. And although not all of us could make it this time around, it was nice to be able to spend a few nights at a resort located on the Kenyan coast with my mum and my sister. It was the first local holiday I've been on since I started my travel blog, and I can honestly say that the hospitality here at home is just as good as it has been elsewhere - if not better. 😉 I also don't think I'll ever get tired of pointing out how big a role friendly staff plays in making guests feel comfortable at a holiday resort - and it was quite evident here.
I’ve included some pictures and a short vlog of our stay below. But before that, here are my *5 Tips for Planning A Trip to Southern Coast: 1. If you’re travelling from Nairobi, the fastest way to get to the Southern Coast is by flying. Otherwise, you can try the SGR which will take a few hours longer to get you to your destination - but is the cheaper option. From the SGR train station in Mombasa, you'll need to get an Uber to the Southern Coast. The cab ride costs roughly Ksh.4,000 and takes about half an hour. 2. There are several good resorts on the Southern coast. So, don’t rush to book one. Take your time to browse through them before deciding which one to stay at, as you’re sure to eventually find something that suits your needs. 3. Once you arrive at your resort, take some time out to explore it regardless of how big it is. It was when we were doing this that we discovered the private pool at Leopard Beach Resort, and later found a hidden lounge area where we relaxed after dinner. 4. Most resorts plan out fun activities for their guests to enjoy during their stay. So, if you find yourself with nothing to do at any given time, just ask a member of staff if there are any activities going on that you may not know about. They should be able to assist you. 5. Lastly, make sure you try out some local treats like mahamri and khaimati while you’re on the Coast. They are usually served with breakfast or at teatime. - ✗O✗O.
