I turned 30 years old this year!🎉🎊
And when I think of how beautiful my birthday celebration turned out to be, I almost can't believe that I was actually considering not having a celebration at all...

This past summer, we stayed at the Leopard Beach Resort and Spa for a few days and it turned out to be the perfect 'welcome' back home.
It's been a while since we went on a family holiday. And although not all of us could make it this time around, it was nice to be able to spend a few nights at a resort located on the Kenyan coast with my mum and my sister. It was the first local holiday I've been on since I started my travel blog, and I can honestly say that the hospitality here at home is just as good as it has been elsewhere - if not better. 😉 I also don't think I'll ever get tired of pointing out how big a role friendly staff plays in making guests feel comfortable at a holiday resort - and it was quite evident here. Although I've lived most of my life in Kenya, I'd never been on a safari until earlier this year...
This past summer, my mum, my sister, and I spent a wonderful night at The Sarova Salt Lick Lodge in Tsavo East National Park, Voi. We arrived at the lodge in the afternoon, having been warned not to get there too late, as it would be hard for us to go in with the wild animals roaming around. As we waited to go to our bedroom, we had some refreshments and toured the premises. The lodge is comprised of huts that sit on tall stilts, creating enough space for the animals to roam freely on the ground without any human disturbance. The distance from the ground also provides guests with a perfect view of the watering hole, where the animals come to quench their thirst from time to time. Travelling has become an escape for me.
I usually don't realize how much I need to get away until I'm sitting in the plane, staring at the clouds, and it suddenly dawns on me that I'm leaving everything familiar behind for a while. 🛫 I had a similar experience with the Milan trip my sister and I took recently... I don't know how healthy impromptu travel plans are for either the body or the mind - my guess is that they aren't that healthy.
Either way, I seem to be getting used to them.😄 The first one was a trip to Portugal with my mum last Christmas (which was only confirmed the day before), and the second one was my recent trip to France with my sister. We'd discussed visiting France for a month or so before we finally decided to go. So in this case, I was more mentally prepared when my sister announced that she'd booked the plane tickets and that we were leaving the following morning. |
