I’d never heard of a capsule hotel until I had to live in one!
It was autumn, 2018. I was working at a startup in Amsterdam at the time, and I desperately needed accommodation. CityHub Hotel in Rotterdam turned out to be the best option. It’s a modern capsule hotel located on a vibrant street called Witte de Withstraat, about 15 minutes from the train station. Although I was reluctant to stay – let alone live – here at first, I ended up enjoying my stay here and even came to appreciate how convenient a place it was to live in.

After a life-changing three years of living and studying abroad, the big question remained: Should I stay or should I go?🤔
My time in Europe & Asia has been extremely enjoyable, and I couldn't be more grateful to God for all the wonderful experiences I've had here. And although I initially wanted to settle down in The Netherlands after completing my studies, I eventually decided that the better option for me at this point in time is to go back home. Last week, I spent a few nights at a four-star hotel called Golden Tulip in Zoetermeer.
I specifically chose to stay here because of its proximity to The Hague, as I would be running a few errands there over the next few days. The hotel is also located about ten minutes away from the nearest tram station, making it easy for me to catch the tram that goes directly to The Hague Central Station from there. One of the biggest regrets I have of the years I spent in the UK is how little I travelled within the country while I was living there.
In the months following my move there from Kenya, my mum & I visited a few popular places (Wembley Stadium being the only one I remember clearly); a year or two later, we tried our hand at local tourism yet again and visited Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace, and the Big Ben - also in London. However, there are so many other places I planned to visit but never did. That's why I resolved to do things differently once I moved to the Netherlands. The Netherlands is such a beautiful country, and I can't think of a better place for me to have chosen to complete my studies.
Leiden, especially - which is where I have been living for the past year or so - is a lovely city filled with friendly people who are always willing to help. |
