The first time I heard about Kaldis Coffee House, it was from a friend who couldn't stop singing praises about their high quality service. The conversation I had with him over a year ago came to mind earlier this week when I had a late lunch there with my friend, Yvonne. 👯
I've dined at Kaldis before, but I didn't fully enjoy my eating-out experience then, seeing as the one I went to was quite busy and noisy.
So when another friend told me about a different, quieter branch located in the Nelson Awori Building on Ralph Bunche Road, I decided to give it a try. 😊
We arrived there shortly after the lunch traffic had cleared and received a warm welcome from the waitresses. Apart from us, there were only a few other customers there, which was a welcome relief to me!😃 We decided to sit at one of the booths located at the far end of the restaurant.
Shortly after, one of the waitresses - who we later found out is called Maria - brought us the menus.
I ordered a plate of spiced rice and mushroom fillet steak, while Yvonne ordered chips and a BBQ chicken burger. As usual, I stayed true to my vanilla milkshake, while Yvonne had a caramelized version of it.
As I was looking for the list of drinks, I accidentally turned to the back page where I found an interesting, short biography about Kaldi - the herdsman who the restaurant is named after. After reading it, I told Yvonne about how he liked daydreaming and writing poetry, and we both agreed that we liked him. 😄
Afterwards, we admired the décor and talked about different things while we waited for our food.
Our drinks were served first, and as usual the vanilla milkshake didn't disappoint. 😉
Shortly after Maria brought our meals. 🍴🍛🍟🍔😜
I could already tell from the aroma of the rice that I would be happy with mine. The sizable portions also indicated that we'd leave satisfied. 😉
We immediately dug in, and I can safely say that we enjoyed every single bite of our meals. Throughout the meal Maria checked on us to make sure that we were okay, and even took some time to have a brief conversation with us about Jesus and life (which is really one and the same thing ✞) after we'd finished eating. I still can't get over how warm and friendly she was. 😊
All in all, I'm happy to report that Kaldis Coffee House still lives up to its reputation of providing high quality service to this day. So if you're ever around that area and are looking for a place to eat, you should definitely try it out. 😊
As I always say, "Food is my love language!"😄 And I believe a memorable eating-out experience is worth sharing, and a good recipe is worth passing on.
