Two things I always take into consideration whenever I'm eating out are whether the portions served are filling, and whether they match the amount of money I'm paying for them. It was no different when my sisters came to visit me a few weeks ago. During their visit, we stayed at a hotel in Amsterdam and planned to explore as much of the city as possible in the few days we had together. That meant that we had little time for other things - such as grabbing a bite to eat. However, we still wanted the meals we did have time for to be enjoyable and filling, and we hoped we'd find a nice restaurant nearby where we could get just that... Thankfully, we came across Drover's Dog restaurant in Amsterdam. They have a couple of branches in different parts of the city, and - as luck would have it - one of their branches is located a short walk away from the hotel we were staying in. Having eaten in the city centre on our first day of sightseeing - and having been disappointed by our meal - we were eager to try something different and, hopefully, much better than our meal the day before had been. Little did we know that we were in for quite a treat! 😋 We received a warm welcome as soon as we walked into Drover's Dog, and then were shown to a vacant table. Menus were brought by soon after, and we took some time to browse through them.
The main dishes at Drover's Dog range from €10 - €15, while the soft and hot drinks cost €2.50 - €4 each. They also serve rocky roads for dessert (€4.50) and also have alcoholic drinks (beers for €4 each and wine bottles starting from €12). We ended up having to pace ourselves as we ate, because there was so much to eat! We enjoyed our meals at The Dog - as it's sometimes referred to - so much, that we went back there the following day for brunch. We more or less placed the same orders, but my sister, Sandra & I switched meals. I also had a hot chocolate drink with whipped cream instead of English tea and she had fresh juice instead of coffee. Rachel stuck to her hot chocolate and Angus beef burger, though. In the course of our trips there, we formed a friendship with one of the staff members - a lovely lady from Australia who refused to tell us where the other Drover's Dog restaurants are located, so as to make sure that we went back to that specific one. 😄 Nevertheless, the locations in Amsterdam are in: Eerste Atjehstraat 62, Heemstedestraat 25, and Wibautstraat 206. "The Dog" is high on my recommendation list to anyone visiting Amsterdam - not only because of the delicious food they serve but also because of the high-quality service they give. You'll definitely find it to be a worthwhile treat, as well as a good choice if you're on the move - or if you just want some good food in your belly. 😉
Their opening hours are: Mon – Sun 9:00am – 11:00pm And the kitchen is open from 9:00am – 9:00pm For more on Drover's Dog, including locations of their other branches, check out their website here: http://drovers-dog.com/ - ✗O✗O.
