swiss CHRISTMAS LUNCH WITH A VIEW

Christmas time is always a special time of the year, especially when I get to spend it with my family.

This year, I spent it with my parents, and we had lunch together at The View restaurant. The View is a revolving restaurant located on the top floor of Mövenpick Hotel in Nairobi.

I'd been to the restaurant once before with some friends and had vowed to go back, seeing as we couldn't stay long then. It turns out that choosing to go back on Christmas day was a wonderful idea! 😊

To make sure that we didn't miss the opportunity, I called the restaurant at least two weeks in advance to book a table. During the call, a staff member advised me on the best time to arrive, as the lunch slot only runs for a few hours before they have to start setting up for the dinner slot.
We heeded their advice, and were among the first ones to arrive. A large Christmas tree welcomed us at the entrance, and each table had a miniature Christmas tree on it as well. We also found wrapped gifts on our table and - in the spirit of Christmas - were later treated to a glass of Swiss-style eggnog.

For lunch, we tried all three courses and were thoroughly impressed with each one. I decided to have a hot starter: Rossi Valle Versacca (Potato Rösti with Tomato Confit, Plaerotus mushrooms and Gruyere); and for the main course I had Beef Escalope Vienna Style (Classic Breadcrumb Crust, served with Steak Frites Fries and Pickled Cabbage, Tartar Sauce). I, especially, enjoyed the dessert - Vanilla Pavlova Ice Cream With Hot Raspberries (Madagascar Vanilla Ice Cream, Fruit Compote, and Chocolate Tuille).
Throughout our meal, we listened to Christmas carols playing in the background and enjoyed the different views of Nairobi as the restaurant revolved. Needless to say, it was an unforgettable experience and a perfect choice for a Christmas lunch.

​The meals at The View are a bit pricey - at least Ksh. 5,000 for a main course, dessert, and a drink (another Ksh. 2,000 if you'd like to have a starter as well). However, I believe it's worth it if you're celebrating a special occasion.

​So, if you're looking for a place to celebrate Christmas - or another special day - next year, consider dining at The View restaurant. Remember to reserve a table in advance to avoid being turned away at the door. If you need to, you can cancel your reservation any time before the date you reserved a table for. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, has wi fi, and also has free parking on the ground floor.
