On a recent trip to Chiang Mai province in the northern area of Thailand, my friends Sue and Yuden took me to the night market for some shopping. We were walking through the rows of stalls when Sue directed our attention to an ice cream stand located at the back of the market. But this wasn't just any ice cream stand - it was an ice cream stand selling Thai-rolled ice cream. They told me that they had been introduced to Thai-rolled ice cream (also known as Stir-fried ice cream) first in Vietnam, and were pleasantly surprised to find that they sold it in Chiang Mai, too! *So far, I'm only certain of three countries where it can be found: Vietnam, Thailand and the USA. Needless to say, after talking to them about it, I was eager to try it out myself; hence my excitement when they decided to treat me to any ice cream of my choice.😜I chose a Vanilla ice cream (typical), mixed with Oreos and M&Ms. As much as I was looking forward to trying it, I was more excited to see how Thai-rolled ice cream is made. First, the ingredients (in this case: vanilla cream, Oreos and M&Ms) are poured onto a steel plate which is already chilled to -34°C. They are then mixed and kneaded until the mixture becomes a creamy paste. Afterwards, the creamy paste is spread out on the steel plate, divided into fat strips, and then rolled up. And Voila! Your ice cream is ready to be served. The whole process takes less than five minutes! Thankfully, my combination turned out to be quite delicious. 😋However, if the thought of adding sweets and cookies to your ice cream is too much for you, there's the option of adding fruit to your ice cream instead. Either way, a Thai-rolled ice cream is definitely worth trying if you get the chance to do so. Below is a video I took of the whole ice cream-making process. Enjoy! 😊 - ✗O✗O.
