This past Sunday, our senior pastor preached a sermon in church about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego - three men in the Bible who had unbeatable faith.
It's a popular story among the Christian community. In fact, most Christians first heard the story about these men in Sunday school. We were told of how they were commanded to bow down to an idol made by King Nebuchadnezzar - the Babylonian king at that time - but refused to do so because in doing so they would be disobeying God; and how they were, in turn, thrown into a fiery furnace for their disobedience - but didn't burn! What's more, when the king looked into the furnace he saw four men in it - not three!
They say a picture is worth 1,000 words. Well, I'm not sure about that word count, but I'd certainly say that each picture has a story to tell...
This week on the blog I'm telling short stories of things that I'm grateful for through pictures that I've taken in the last couple of months. One of my keywords for 2019 is simplicity. And although we are mostly used to giving thanks for the big things that happen in our lives, I'm learning that there are many little, simple things to give thanks for on a daily basis as well.
With that said, here are some of the things I've come to appreciate in the first quarter of the year...
It's been about three months since I started feeling like a different person.
I feel lighter, like a huge weight that I've been carrying for way too long has been lifted off my shoulders. I feel free and I feel bold, as if I suddenly have what it takes to be whatever I want to be, and to do whatever I want to do.
After a life-changing three years of living and studying abroad, the big question remained: Should I stay or should I go?🤔
I recently heard Lupita Nyong'o promising to partner with more female photographers in 2019.
It was on the evening of the 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards event late last year, and Instagram had partnered with her to capture the event through her eyes. As you can imagine, hearing her say this made me really happy - not only because of my love for photography, but also because it's always nice to hear a woman choosing to support other women.
Unfortunately, women supporting other women is rarely the case - especially in the workplace.
Having recently graduated from University, I'm currently mentally preparing myself to go back into the workplace, and I find that out of all the concerns I have about finding a job, the thought of working alongside other women is the one that troubles me the most...
I find it easier and more effective to write down how I feel rather than to say it.
