One of the biggest regrets I have of the years I spent in the UK is how little I travelled within the country while I was living there.
In the months following my move there from Kenya (my home country - which I haven't seen much of either by the way 😩) , my mum & I visited a few popular places (Wembley Stadium being the only one I remember clearly, lol); a year or two later, we tried our hand at local tourism yet again and visited Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace & the Big Ben - also in London. However, there are so many other places I planned to visit, but never did.😔
That's why I resolved to do things differently once I moved to the Netherlands.
Not only is The Netherlands a beautiful country, but there's also so much to see here! 😃
Yet again, I started off quite well when I first moved here. I visited quite a number of places during my first year; however, the excitement wore off with time, and I found myself getting back into the routine of making plans to visit different places, but not actually going anywhere.
Since then I've realized that it doesn't matter how determined one is to explore if they aren't willing to turn their intention into action. Yes, I love adventure and discovering new places, but I always need some extra motivation to plan a trip, get up on the day scheduled for the trip, get ready and go!🕵♀🎒🚉
I've also found that it helps if you plan to go with someone else, as you're more likely to cancel or postpone your trip if you're going alone.
These discoveries enabled me to resume my local exploits; and together with my Mum, I enjoyed some local touring this summer - not only in Rotterdam (see previous post), but also here in The Hague as well as in Kinderdijk (a small village in the south with the largest number of windmills in the entire country). My last local trip this summer was to Maastricht (also in the south) with my friend, Rachel. Below is a video I put together of our travels.
I hope it inspires you to venture out and explore your own home country a bit more! 😉😊
P.S. Any suggestions on where in I should travel to next?
I find it easier and more effective to write down how I feel rather than to say it.
