It's been a life-long dream of mine to travel the world with my family. And I'm fortunate enough to have seen that dream come true in the last year or so. First I got to travel to Spain & Italy with my mum; then I travelled to Gran Canaria earlier this year with one of my older sisters and her family; and this summer started off with me travelling to Belgium with another of my sisters, Rachel. 👭🇧🇪
A few friends from school who have visited Belgium told me a bit about the country before we went, and even recommended places to visit, and tasty treats to try while we were there. By the time I was done speaking to them, I was looking forward to going to Belgium even more than I had been before! 😃
Due to time constraints, we were only able to visit for a day. But we figured that was long enough for our first trip there. We decided we'd spend our day in the country's capital - Brussels. Our plan was to get a train there as early in the morning as possible, so as to spend most of the day exploring.
We got to Brussels just after midday, and immediately started walking around the city. The sun was out, the square was filled with the sound of music, beautiful buildings with intricate details stood on each side of each street, and the streets themselves were filled with people walking from one place to another. Some of them sat in groups at outdoor cafés enjoying a snack or full meals.
We bought ourselves some ice cream to keep us cool, as it was quite warm. We then let our eyes take in everything they could before making our way to our first stop: La Grand Place. Unfortunately, the big display of flowers that we'd been hoping to see outside La Grand Place only takes place in August, and so it wasn't there. But it was nice to see the building itself all the same. 😊
Next, we decided to cut through one of the smaller streets, and found ourselves surrounded by souvenir shops and little cafés selling the famous Belgian waffle. We also saw the famous Manneken Pis (Little man Pee in English) fountain, and made a stop at one of the shops selling chocolate to get a taste of the famous Belgian chocolate.
I carried a SONY HD X300 with me this time round, and I occasionally stopped to take a picture here and there as we walked. However, it's not as easy to use as the Canon (which is my favourite camera, by the way); therefore, I ended up not using it much.
Finally, we settled at the Hard Rock Café for some lunch. I couldn't help but admire the décor in the café which does a great job of transporting one back to the Rock N' Roll era! 🎸
It was my first time eating at Hard Rock Café, but my sister, Rachel had been to one before and knew exactly what we should have: seasoned fries with jumbo wings, coated in smoked dry rub, and served with blue cheese & carrot and celery sticks. We also ordered some fresh juice to wash it all down. A variety of rock music was playing in the background as we enjoyed our meal, and I occasionally looked around to admire all the rock artists' memorabilia hanging in different parts of the café.
Soon, it was time to head back home - but not before we had our last sample of Belgian chocolate. 😉
Rachel had a hot chocolate drink at a café near the train station, which was just as tasty as their chocolate bars are - if not tastier. I, on the other hand, made do with a small sample of solid chocolate with a cheeky message on its cover: All you need is Chocolate! 🍫
Mmm, I couldn't agree more. 😋
Until next time, Brussels, Au revoir!
I find it easier and more effective to write down how I feel rather than to say it.
