"God's called me to teach dance to children in Afghanistan as a form of worship."
It took a while for the words coming out of 17-year old Grace Robson's mouth to register in my mind. That was the last thing I'd expected to hear from her!
At the time, I was having dinner with her & her family in their dining room. Before meeting her, I'd heard stories from them about her dancing history, and had mentally formed an image in my head of who these experiences had shaped her into. It turns out, however, that the image in my head was only partly true...
Grace and I eventually met this summer, and I remember thinking then how young she looked. From what I'd heard about her, I'd imagined that she'd look much older in person. We didn't talk much then, but after hearing about the vision she had received from God at dinner a few weeks later, I knew that I wanted to know more about her as well as her vision...
Someone once told me that the best way to get to know a person is by travelling with them to a different place; and after the experiences I've had so far travelling with family and friends, I couldn't agree more. You learn a lot about a person - and they learn a lot about you - when in a different environment from the one you're both used to. In some cases, the experience can work against a friendship, but in other cases, it can enrich it - just as it did with mine & Kanyali's. 👯😊
I watched a movie the other day about a young, career woman who had been running her own company for a year and a half, and had built it up to the point where she now had 220 employees working for her. However, she was now being requested to hire a CEO to take over some of her management responsibilities because she had too much on her plate; and allocating some of her work to someone else - it was believed - would decrease her workload and, in effect, make her more productive in other areas of her work.
At the beginning, she struggled with this idea. It was obvious that she was reluctant to give up her CEO position, and had a hard time finding someone who she felt was good enough to replace her. But with time, she started warming to the idea; and as the movie progressed, it was slowly revealed why...
Another school year just came to an end, and I'm currently in the process of saying goodbye to a few people who I might never see again. These are people I've seen day in and day out for months - some even years - yet it's only now that I have to say goodbye to them that I'm wondering whether I took full advantage of my time with them while I had the chance...
It's been a life-long dream of mine to travel the world with my family. And I'm fortunate enough to have seen that dream come true in the last year or so. First I got to travel to Spain & Italy with my mum; then I travelled to Gran Canaria earlier this year with one of my older sisters and her family; and this summer started off with me travelling to Belgium with another of my sisters, Rachel. 👭🇧🇪
I find it easier and more effective to write down how I feel rather than to say it.
